Wedding planning checklist

Nigerian Wedding Food Checklist

Use this checklist before you ask for a Nigerian wedding catering quote. It helps you collect the details a caterer needs without forcing you to know the final menu, final guest count or final setup plan too early.

Fast checklist before you enquire

  • Know your wedding date, venue area, estimated guest count and rough service time.
  • Choose your priority dishes before asking for a quote: jollof rice, egusi, suya, pounded yam and puff puff are common planning anchors.
  • Decide whether you are asking for food only, food plus setup, or food plus setup and staff support.
  • List dietary and allergen notes early. Do not wait until the final week to raise them.

Menu shortlist

This is not a fixed package. Use it to prepare your enquiry and then confirm availability and pricing by email.

Category Dishes to consider Why it helps the menu
Rice Jollof rice, special rice or fried rice. Gives guests a familiar base and works well for mixed groups.
Soup and swallow Egusi, efo riro, okra, pounded yam, amala or eba. Adds a traditional centre for guests expecting Nigerian wedding food.
Specials Suya, asun, ayamase or pepper soup. Adds aroma, spice, texture and sharing options.
Sides and pastries Plantain, moi moi, akara and puff puff. Helps guests customise their plate and gives lighter options.

Timing

When to raise different questions

  1. First enquiry: date, venue area, estimated guest count, service needs and priority dishes.
  2. After availability is confirmed: discuss menu shape, setup, staff support, minimums, deposit and practical requirements by email.
  3. Before final confirmation: check dietary notes, venue access, service timing, final guest estimate and any family-priority dishes.
  4. Before the event: confirm final agreed details in writing so the catering team is working from the same plan as the family.
